When my mother died unexpectedly several years ago, God taught me a huge lesson in paying attention to that inner voice of His will, plan, and timing in my life. It was learning how to divinely trust that inner voice of my soul and not of the practical voice.
God had spoken to my heart one summer morning to drive to Las Vegas and see my mom. I live in LA and it’s a 5-6 hour trip to mom’s house. Phil and one of my daughters were both out of town but I knew I had to go. So, I quickly loaded up my youngest daughter, Bailey, and we headed down the long desert highway. As I drove I kept asking myself why? I had just seen mom only a couple weeks before and there didn’t seem to be any compelling reason to go see her again except God told me to go.
It would be that last time I would spend with mom and to this day I remember it as one of the most precious gifts of the Father’s love that He ever gave to both of us. We swam in her pool, had some sweet laughs looking at old pictures, and just being together for no reason. She looked at me one evening and out of the blue said, “I have made my peace with God and I want you to know that when I die you are not to mourn or be sad for me. God is bringing me to Himself and He wants you to be happy.” I looked at her and immediately told her to stop talking like that and that she was perfectly fine and shouldn’t be talking about her death. Then, she repeated it – twice. She was compelled to tell me and have it sink into my soul. She wanted me to know God had His prefect timing for her and I was not to interfere or doubt it.
The next week – just four day’s later, a policeman phoned to inform me that mom had been found by one of her close friends dead in her bed. Our Father had taken her home just as she had always prayed to go in her sleep peacefully. She never wanted to suffer, be in pain, or cause us to have to suffer taking care of her. God gave her the desires of her heart because she was faithful to Him.
“Timing is everything” so the proverb tells us. All of us have been in situations where we were in the right place at the right time and something great had happened. We have also been in the opposite situation unfortunately. I believe in God’s perfect timing for what He wants to accomplish in us and for His Kingdom. When Jesus walked the earth it was God’s perfect timing for Him to appear to us. God had a plan for His only son, but Jesus had to decide for himself whether to follow it or not. Thankfully, He chose to be our perfect example of how to listen to the Father and trust Him and His timing for everything that matters in our lives.
God has the right timing for you and all you want in all life’s situations, whether it be a personal, family, or career situation. It may not seem that way as endless suffering, pain, and tragic situations constantly surround us. The constant question of “why” never stops coming to the surface. I do know this one thing: it’s His timing and His will that I want to be keeping and not my own. Trust His timing and walk in peace.
John 7: 6-8 “Therefore Jesus told them, ‘The right time for Me has not yet come; for you any time is right. The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify what it does is evil. You go to the Feast. I am not yet going up to this Feast, because for Me the right time has not yet come.'”
Beautifully said!! What encouraging and “timely” words!
